I don't know why everyone is so in love with Beckham anyway, he lacks power and is no better than an average fielder from what I have seen. He may end up being a consistent .280-.300 hitter, but all these comparisons to Ryne Sandberg I keep hearing on Chicago sports radio are more than a bit hopeful.

I don't expect him to be that good.  People talking like that are crazy.

However, I do feel he will be a very solid player for the Sox for years to come.

He is still young, with upside, but the BIGGEST thing is, the Sox have no one to replace him at second if they were to get rid of him.  Brent Lillebridge would probably be starting at 2B.  cry1

That is the main reason I wouldn't deal him.  Sox are probably thinking the same way
They could always plug in Ozzie at 2B, he could be the player/Manager! rofl foclaugh The funny thing is, in his mind he could do it.

Edwin Jackson-Adam Dunn Three-Team Rumor

It wouldn't be late July without rumors of intriguing three-team deals.  ESPN's Jayson Stark:

Rumblings continue to surface about a possible three-team deal involving the Nationals, White Sox and Diamondbacks that would send Edwin Jackson to Washington, Adam Dunn to Chicago and a bunch of young pitchers to Arizona.

We know the Nationals like Jackson and the White Sox like Dunn, so perhaps the D'Backs can facilitate a deal and further stock up on prospects.  Jackson, who is no stranger to three-team deals, has a 5.01 ERA, 7.0 K/9, and 4.0 BB/9 in 20 starts for Arizona.  On the plus side, he turns 27 in September, averages 94 mph on his fastball, and is signed for next year.  As he was with Dan Haren, D'Backs interim GM Jerry Dipoto might be forced to sell low on Jackson.

IN MY OPINION A THREE TEAM DEAL IS PROBABLY THE ONLY WAY THE SOX GET DUNN BECAUSE HIS PRICE IS SO HIGH AND THE NATS WANT BECKHAM.

BUT I HATE JAYSON STARK AND I THINK HE'S A HACK. SO I'M NOT BUYING INTO THIS JUST YET.
That trade makes sense for all involved. If they get Beckham in that deal. The Nats have another young infielder to go with Desmond and Zimmerman.
If they get Jackson that shores up a suspect rotation that follows Strasburg.
The Sox get a big left handed bat in their line up

Like you said Stark is a hack and may have heard this at the pub  rofl

Like we said a fucking hack

1:27pm: The Diamondbacks have not yet held three-way talks with the Nationals and White Sox, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.  Still, they will "not hesitate to deal Edwin Jackson if they get what they want."  ESPN's Buster Olney adds via Twitter, "The Nats have made progress in their effort to trade prospects for Jackson."

Dan Haren left Monday's game in the fifth inning after being hit in the right arm by a Kevin Youkilis liner.
Haren will probably go in for X-rays to see if there's a break or just a bad bruise. A DL stint is a definite possibility here. Haren allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings before departing.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Nationals have not offered Adam Dunn a contract extension in any form this summer.

That explains the rift. Dunn has hit 23 home runs this season while racking up a .935 OPS and he has drawn interest from multiple teams in the American League Central. If the Nationals have no desire to pay him, they might as well move him now. He will be a free agent at the conclusion of this season.

Source: Hudson in any Dunn deal

By Bruce Levine

Washington Nationals first baseman Adam Dunn could be dealt to the White Sox if Chicago is willing to sweeten the pot and add a second substantial minor league player in return, according to a major league source.

Any deal for Dunn would have to include Daniel Hudson, the White Sox's top pitching prospect. The Nationals also want one of three White Sox prospects: catcher Tyler Flowers, outfielder Jordan Danks or injured infielder Brent Morel.

The White Sox turned down a Washington request for a Dunn-for-Gordon Beckham deal straight up, according to the source.

Another source told ESPNChicago.com that Washington has six teams bidding for Dunn, including the White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers. There are also two unidentified National League teams in the mix.

Washington wants young pitching back that they can project for their starting rotation. If the Nationals can't find a trading partner they could hold on to Dunn and receive two draft picks in the 2011 June draft if they offer Dunn arbitration, he files for free agency and he signs elsewhere.

The Nationals followed that plan in 2006 when they decided to hold on to Alfonso Soriano instead of trading him at the July 31 deadline. Soriano signed with the Chicago Cubs in the offseason.

CHICAGO -- Not only will the White Sox not trade Gordon Beckham for Adam Dunn, he won't be moved for Prince Fielder or any other left-handed bat that could fill the team's greatest offensive need.

Beckham said before Tuesday's game that he was told by White Sox management that he won't be going anywhere at the trade deadline.

"I've been pretty much told that I will be OK and will be in a White Sox uniform after July 31," Beckham said. "I'm not too worried about it. I wasn't too worried about it. I think it's just kind of fun for all the speculation, but that's about all it is usually."

An ESPNChicago.com report earlier Tuesday said that the Washington Nationals' request to trade Dunn for Beckham straight up was rejected by the White Sox. According to the same report, Dunn could still be moving to the South Side for a package of Daniel Hudson and one of three top prospects: catcher Tyler Flowers, outfielder Jordan Danks or injured infielder Brent Morel.

"I have nothing but the best stuff to say for the White Sox," Beckham said. "They have been in my corner all year and they didn't have to be. They could have given up on me. Hopefully I will be able to reward them for the rest of the year. It feels good. It's nice to know you're wanted and I have really enjoyed my time here."

Knowing that he is valued more by the White Sox than having Dunn's power potential could potentially put pressure on the young second baseman to produce.

"I can't worry about that," Beckham said. "If I don't play well, I can't say, 'Well, maybe Adam Dunn would have done better.' It is what it is. I will go out and play. It's been an up and down year but I feel like I'm on the rise."

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Giants "have stepped up" for Jorge Cantu.
The Rangers and Rockies have also been in the mix for Cantu, but it looks like the Giants may have the advantage now. According to Rosenthal, the Marlins are believed to be looking for a young left-handed pitcher. It's not clear who the Giants are willing to offer, but prospects Eric Surkamp and Clayton Tanner would fit that description.

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball on Wednesday.

MLB cited Leyland for inappropriate and aggressive conduct during the bottom of the third inning of Monday night's game against Tampa Bay. The manager was ejected during an argument in which Leyland said he accidentally sprayed second base umpire Marty Foster with sunflower seeds.

"You take your medicine and move on," Leyland said. "Whether you always agree with it or not, you honor the system. It's behind us. Move forward."

Here are the comments from Jim after that game

"He accused me of something I didn't do and that pissed me off and that's when I got going. I had some sunflower seeds and when I was talking some sprayed on him and he indicated that I deliberately spit on him.

"I'm not going to take that from anybody. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to take that kind of accusation from anybody. That's a blatant lie. Did some of the sunflower seeds spray on his shirt? Yes they did, without any question. But I don't even spit on the ground.

"And I'm not going to take that. I'm tired of protecting umpires. I'm tired of not being able to say anything. I'm defending myself. If you want to kick me out, that's fine. I don't care about that because it sprayed on his shirt, but when you start to accuse somebody of doing something you better be careful."
Leyland was asked what he'd do if he got suspended or something due to the alleged spitting. His response: "I don't know what they're going to do and I don't give a shit . . .I'm tired of it."

DEFINITELY NOT A SEXY TRADE BUT FILLS A NEED, I HATE THIS GUY THOUGH

Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports that the Indians have traded 3B Jhonny Peralta to the Tigers for left-hander Giovanni Soto.

Peralta will step in immediately at third base for the Tigers, who lost Brandon Inge to a fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his left hand last week. The 28-year-old Peralta was batting just .246 with a .698 OPS for the Indians, but he's hit better in the past and a change of scenery should only help him. Soto, 19, has a 2.61 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 82 2/3 innings at Single-A this year.

Source: Oswalt deal agreed upon

The Phillies and Astros have intensified talks in the past 24 hours about a deal that would send pitcher Roy Oswalt to Philadelphia, sources said.

The teams have agreed to the players who will be exchanged, as well as the financial terms that will address the $23 million remaining on Oswalt's contract, according to a major league source with knowledge of the deal.

It is now up to Oswalt to decide whether to waive his no-trade clause.

The agreement on trade terms was first reported by KRIV-TV in Houston.

There have been doubts about whether Oswalt is willing to do so for a move to the Phillies. Despite reports to the contrary, the Phillies have gotten no indication that the 32-year-old right-hander has dropped his request that the Phillies pick up his option for 2012. The Phillies have already balked at that demand.

Oswalt has hinted he might be willing to restructure his contract or compromise on that request. But there has been no indication that he would approve a deal without some sort of financial inducement.

Now that the Phillies have taken outfielder Jayson Werth off the market, they would no longer be able to clear money off their $142 million payroll to absorb the approximately $5 million that remains in Oswalt's salary for the rest of this year.

So they have asked the Astros to pay a significant portion of Oswalt's money. The 32-year-old right-hander has a $16 million guarantee for next season, plus either a $2 million buyout or a $16 million option for 2012.

A further sign that the Phillies remain the favorite -- and perhaps the only team left -- in the talks for Oswalt is that the two other clubs that had been in the bidding, the Cardinals and Dodgers, have moved on to pursue other deals.

The Cardinals have concentrated on second-tier starters and on an infield bat. The Dodgers, meanwhile, made a trade Wednesday for Royals outfielder Scott Podsednik, and were more focused on trying to trade for Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly and Pirates pitcher Paul Maholm than they were on continuing talks for Oswalt.

Nevertheless, it was also clear the Phillies weren't particularly confident that they were going to be able to trade for Oswalt themselves. They made contact with the Cubs about Lilly and with the Indians about both Jake Westbrook and Fausto Carmona. And they had a scout in Cleveland to watch Carmona's start against the Yankees.

With less than 72 hours remaining before Saturday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, Oswalt remained the Phillies' top priority, sources said. But Oswalt told MLB.com Wednesday that he wants "a little bit of time" to decide whether to approve any trade the Astros agree to.

"I'm hoping it's not going to be dropped on me an hour before the deadline," he said.

Oswalt didn't specify how much time he would need. But regardless, for the Phillies and Astros, the clock was ticking louder than ever Wednesday.

If Roy doesn't go to Philly, he is an asshole. The Phillies have a legitimate shot at the World Series now and even with all the injuries to their offense they are beginning to gel, time to make the move Roy! I don't care if Philly wins the Division or makes the playoffs as a Wild Card, they would be favorites in the National League with Oswalt!

Unless they all get healthy quickly, I personally would still put the Braves and Cards as the favorites over the Phils even if they get Oswalt.  beer2
No, sir, I have no experience but I'm a big fan of money.  I like it, I use it, I have a little.  I keep it in a jar on top of my refrigerator. I'd like to put more in that jar. That's where you come in.

Cardinals and Braves have holes in their batting lineups, by the time the playoffs start Utley will be back as well as Rollins and Victorino. Despite what has happened so far this year, the Phillies have the best offense in the league and with Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt plus the playoff experience over the past few years, they are undeniably the favorite. I would say that the Cardinals and Braves probably have better bullpens though, especially at closer but of course this is all hear say, let's see what happens over the next two months.
